Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland

With an undercover ice rink, bars and food stalls, all against the backdrop of the iconic civic centre and spectacular lights, Christmas in Cardiff isn’t complete without a visit to Winter Wonderland! New for this year and unique in the UK is the Alpine Ice Trail, where you can explore a 250m long route without taking your skates off! It’s not just about the skating – Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland has a funfair with a range of games and rides, including familiar favourite the Big Wheel, and a great ‘Après Ski’ atmosphere at the Sur La Piste Bar.

St David’s Hall

25 November – 24 December

St David’s Hall has a real variety of concerts and shows this festive season, including The Ratpack, Handel’s Messiah, Bert & Cherry’s Christmas Plum Pudding, carol concerts, and The Overtones. Perhaps the most magical offering are the three ballets – Coppelia, The Nutcracker, and Swan Lake – a real Christmas treat.

New Theatre

A trip to the pantomime is a popular Christmas tradition and great fun for all the family. This year the New Theatre’s must-see production is Cinderella, featuring Gok Wan, Mike Doyle, Ceri Dupree and Phil Butler.

If you love musicals, then the New Theatre also has the perfect festive delight for you: Magic of the Musicals at Christmas, from Orbit Theatre. With a glittering selection of musical theatre favourites from the last fifty years, the Orbit Theatre Orchestra will have you singing along to all your favourite numbers from Oliver, A Chorus Line, Chicago, Les Misérables, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, White Christmas and many more.

Join Wales Millennium Centre this festive season for Christmas at the Centre. With family-friendly shows such as Nativity! The Musical kicking off in November, and Red and The Christmas Clock in December, both of which are fully accessible, there’s really nowhere else better to bring the family together.

The adults aren’t left out either: with three Welsh language Christmas productions (Cabarela Nadolig, Connie Orff: A Christmas Con, and 50 Shêd o Santa Clôs) and plenty more to enjoy, you can’t go wrong with Christmas at the Centre, no matter who you are spending it with!

Jools Holland

21 December

Get the Christmas break started with Jools Holland and his distinguished Rhythm & Blues Orchestra on their annual excursion to Motorpoint Arena Cardiff.

Accompanying Jools with the Rhythm & Blues Orchestra will be the supremely talented Ruby Turner, Louise Marshall, and original Squeeze member and powerhouse Gilson Lavis on drums.

Additional special guests will be Pauline Black and Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson from the legendary ska band The Selecter.

Christmas with the Llandaff Cathedral Choir 

21 December – 7pm

Much-loved Llandaff Cathedral Choir perform a concert of music and readings for Christmas. The choir, with their angelic boy choristers, will sing a variety of choral favourites for the festive season, including “Ding dong! Merrily on high”, “Lully, lulla”, “In the bleak midwinter”, and music by Mathias, Leighton and Lauridsen. There will be one or two surprises along the way too!

The choir will be joined by brass ensemble for roof-raising audience participation in singing several of the nation’s favourite Christmas carols, including “O come, all ye faithful”, “Hark! The herald” and “O little town of Bethlehem”.
We are also delighted to welcome BBC Wales favourites Rebecca John and Nicola Heywood Thomas as special guest readers and Beverley Humphreys as host for the evening.
Do join us for what promises to be an evening of entertainment and festive fun in the company of one of Wales’ premier choirs!

Nutcracker On Ice 11 December – 05 January

The Imperial Ice Stars are coming to South Wales with their dazzling production of The Nutcracker on Ice for Christmas 2019. Over the last 15 years the award-winning troupe have performed to over four million people across five continents, including sold out seasons at the Royal Albert Hall and the London Palladium. The theatre at the Celtic Manor Resort will play host to 37 performances of The Nutcracker on Ice over the Christmas and New Year period.

Cardiff Bus Discounted Family Travel
