International Concert Series 2018-19
Conductor Martyn Brabbins
Soloist Marat Bisengaliev, Violinist
Weber Oberon Overture
Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No 3
A solo horn ushers in the enchanted soundscape of Shakespeare’s Oberon who Weber vividly brings to life in his final opera, fi rst performed at Covent Garden in 1826. Its e ortless melodic invention is mirrored in Saint-Saëns’ stunning work, one of the fi nest Romantic French Violin Concertos of the 19th century and packed with unforgettable tunes. Romance is the key to Rimsky-Korsakov’s evocation of Arabian Nights, brilliantly clothed in orchestral garb of cinematic intensity.
