Event Info
It’s 1833. Public riots are taking place in the streets of London over the abolition of slavery. Edmund Kean is the greatest actor of his time. When he collapses on stage during a performance of Othello, young black actor Ira Aldridge is asked to stand in. Based on a real-life story, Red Velvet depicts an actor’s professional struggle in the face of widespread prejudice in London society.
