hide has three romantic snug Cabans, a Bugail (Shepherds) Hut and ‘Walden’ Lodge tucked between trees, bushes and wildflowers offering uninterrupted views of the wild seas. Our wish is for you to see, feel and be immersed in Wales, with visible reminders of myths, history, poetry and art.

Tresilian Wood is the name of hide’s site with its small arboretum occupying seven and a half acres adjacent to Atlantic College and St. Donats Castle. St Donats is a tiny village in the Vale of Glamorgan, just 25 minutes from the Welsh Capital, an area steeped in history, castles, churches and myths. With vast skies, lush grasslands, woods and the dramatic Jurassic Heritage Coastline hide is special.

Hide is located in its own 7.5 acre arboretum, overlooking the wild Heritage Coast in South Wales.

St Donats is a tiny hamlet in the Vale of Glamorgan, just outside Cardiff positioned on the cliffs on the Heritage Coastline.

Our land in St Donats is called Tresilian Wood and we literally ‘Hide’ our business from the passer-by. So look out for the sign ‘Tresilian Wood’ and you are there….

Arriving by car

From the East

  1. Leave the M4 at Junction 33 (Cardiff West and Airport) and at the first major exit;
  2. Take the A48 towards Bridgend;
  3. From near Cowbridge, follow the (Atlantic College/St Donats Castle) signs;
  4. At Pentre Meyrick, turn left and follow the road to Llantwit Major;
  5. Just before Llantwit Major, the route is sign-posted (Atlantic College/St Donats) to the right at a traffic circle;
  6. Continue on the B4265 for approximately one mile;
  7. Turn left at the staggered junction (sign-posted Atlantic College/ St Donats Castle) and follow the narrow farm road;
  8. At the next T-junction, turn left and continue past the college entrances, there is a sharp bend, continue.
  9. After 600m the entrance to Tresilian Wood is on the left.
  10. Follow the driveway to the top,  the Visitor’s Car Park is directly in-front. The reception is on the far end of the large building.

From The West

  1. Leave the M4 at Junction 37 and follow the signs to the A48, heading for Bridgend.
  2. In Bridgend turn off the A48 to the right and onto the B4265 (Ewenny Road) towards Llantwit Major;
    Pass through Ewenny, St Brides Major and Wick;
  3. Two miles from Wick there is a sign-post (Atlantic College/St Donats Castle) to the right at a staggered junction,  follow this;
  4. Follow the narrow farm road;
  5. At the next T-junction, turn left and continue past the college entrances, there is a sharp bend, continue;
  6. After 600m the entrance to Tresilian Wood is on the left;
  7. Follow the driveway to the top, the Visitor’s Car Park is directly in-front. The reception is on the far end of the large building.

Arriving by public transport

By Rail

In order to travel to ‘Hide at St Donats’ by rail you would need to arrive at either Bridgend or Llantwit Major Station and from there take your can either take a taxi  (c. 30 minutes from Bridgend or c. 5 minutes from Llantwit Major). There is also a bus, Number 303 that travels from Bridgend station via Hide at St Donats to Llantwit Major and vice versa. Just let the driver know that you want to stop at ‘George V’ stop.
