The University of South Wales (USW) is Wales’ largest University and one of the biggest in the UK, with over 30,000 students based across Pontypridd, Newport and Cardiff.
University South Wales’ Cardiff Campus (CF24 2FN) is ideally located just behind Cardiff Queen Street rail station and a short walk from the Central Rail station, benefiting from plenty of nearby car parks. The building is also based within a 5 minute walk of Cardiff’s St David’s 2 and the Motorpoint Arena.
The original modern and iconic ATRiuM building was completed and opened in 2007, providing a brand-new facility in the heart of the capital city for USW’s Creative Industries students. The ATRiuM spans over four floors with an amazing spiral staircase through its centre. The 4th floor Zen Room offers a great space to inspire creativity with breath-taking views over the city centre and Cardiff Bay. The Theatre provides the perfect setting for a theatrical performance or conference, while the Cinema is ideal for video screenings.
The second phase of development at the ATRiuM was announced in early 2012, providing additional space to house Mingle Food Court, to complement the ATRiuM Café, along with creating a great space for the Student’s Union. Work is currently underway on the ATRiuM ‘2B’ project to add additional space to house state-of-the-art learning and teaching facilities for our Creative Industries students for September 2016. The building is expected to house extensive design studio facilities for illustration, advertising, graphic communication, TV and film set design and interior design as well as our fashion courses. Two dance studios, drama rehearsal spaces and a substantial photographic studio, with additional image capture and finishing labs are also being discussed among the plans, as well as new fabrication workshop facilities to support media, performance and design courses and model making facilities for animation.
USW’s accommodation is based at the Treforest campus, just 9 miles north of Cardiff with around six trains running every hour. With over 800 single en suite bedrooms available across 3* Glamorgan Court halls and 4* Mountain Halls, and a small number of 4* studio apartments available (Visit wales campus grading scheme). The campus is an ideal base close enough to Cardiff but also great to explore the South Wales Valleys and Brecon Beacons.
