DISCOVER THE THRILL OF SCALE: CARDIFF’S NEWEST ATTRACTION

Monday 29 April 2024

Calling all thrill-seekers! Cardiff has just unlocked a spectacular new experience that is set to elevate your heartbeat. SCALE, the latest attraction at the iconic Principality Stadium, offers an unparalleled adventure that we at Visit Cardiff had the privilege to test firsthand. Join us on a thrilling recount of our day scaling the heights of Welsh Rugby and zipping across the Cardiff skyline.

The Arrival

The journey began at Gate 7, right next to the famous River Taff and the bustling Stadium Plaza. Here, the welcoming staff at SCALE prepared us for the day ahead. We received our tickets and photo wristbands after checking in and signing a waiver, these bands could then be scanned at each photo point allowing us to collect memories of the experience without the worry of losing a camera or phone.

The Ascent

The climb started with a large set of stairs which felt like a journey itself as we anticipated the panoramic views awaiting at the top. Our climb had thorough safety checks, ensuring that our equipment was secure before we approached SCALE’s main event.

The Walk Above

Reaching the first vantage point, we were securely attached to the safety system and given insights into its workings. As we walked above the pitch, our guide filled the journey with facts about the stadium’s capacity and the amazing pitch below.

Cardiff From Above

The walk around the stadium roof provided an array of breathtaking views. We looked out over Cardiff Arms Park and the River Taff, with boats dotting the waterways below. Our guide shared insights into the history and significance of the locations within our line of sight, including Cardiff Bay and the distant islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm.

The Zip and Drop

For those of us who chose the additional activities, the zip line and The Drop added an extra dose of adrenaline to the experience. After another climb to the zip line starting point and a safety briefing, we flew across the roof of the stadium, relishing the wind in our faces. The Drop was equally thrilling, with a controlled abseil down the side of the stadium that provided a unique perspective and a test of nerve.

The Wind Down

After the exhilarating activities, we returned to the reception area where you can view and purchase photos from the designated spots. It was a seamless process that allowed us to take home professional mementos of our experience without any hassle.

Practical Advice for Future Climbers

Our advice to future visitors is practical: dress warmly, as the altitude introduces a chill, and wear appropriate clothing and footwear – no loose-fitting clothes or inappropriate shoes. We also recommend using the lockers provided to ensure a hands-free experience.
