OUR SUGGESTED ITINERARIES

We know it can be hard to choose where to go with so much choice in our capital city, and it’s hard to know where is truly accessible. That’s why we have compiled two itineraries, perfect for newcomers (or returners) exploring our city.

48 HOURS IN THE CITY CENTRE (FUN, FRIENDLY AND ACCESSIBLE)

48 HOURS IN CARDIFF BAY (FUN, FRIENDLY AND ACCESSIBLE)

TRAVELLING TO & AROUND CARDIFF

There’s many ways to get to the Welsh capital. For more information about getting into Cardiff, see here. For information about how to get around the city once you arrive, see here.

If you are driving or coming by car, there is plenty Blue Badge parking for disabled visitors throughout the city, near to our biggest tourist attractions. Cardiff Council-run parking is free for blue badge holders. You can visualise our disabled car parking on our City Centre map and Cardiff Bay map – or find out more information on our car parking page. Cardiff is in the top 12 places for disabled parking in the UK.

If you are taking a bus, you’ll find the majority have low-level access (without stairs) and all local routes accept the free Wales Concessionary Bus Pass.

If you are taking a train and need assistance, you can book this up to 2 hours before through Transport for Wales Rail, or your respective train operator. Disabled visitors can benefit from using a Disabled Person’s Railcard for a third off all fares – or instead, visitors with a free Wales Concessionary Bus Pass can benefit from a third off some journeys in Cardiff and the South Wales valleys after 9:30am.

CITY CENTRE MOBILITY BUGGY

This is a free electric buggy service for those who need help accessing the city centre. The vehicles can carry up to 3 passengers each and travel around the city centre on a flexible route, Monday-Thursday 8am-4pm and Friday 8am-3:30pm. Flag down the vehicle or book a vehicle in advance on +44 (0)29 2087 3888.

MOBILITY SCOOTERS AND WHEELCHAIRS

A free service, offering day rental of scooters and wheelchairs is available from St David’s shopping centre, on level P3 (first level of car park). However, this needs to be booked at least 48 hours in advance on their website.

It is available Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 11am-5pm.

Parc Cefn Onn - Tramper Service

We have teamed up with Countryside Mobility, to provide 2 outdoor mobility scooters at Parc Cefn Onn. With support from The Lottery Heritage Fund, the scooters, known as Trampers, will make the park more accessible.

ACCESSIBLE TOILETS & CHANGING PLACES

You can find information about Public Toilets and changing places on our dedicated page.

You may need a RADAR key to access these, but this can be bought from Cardiff Central Library.
