For one week every October, Cardiff becomes the home of LGBTQ+ cinema. In 2026, that celebration is bigger than ever as the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival marks its 20th anniversary.

From 12–18 October, filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences from across the UK and around the world will gather in Cardiff for a week of outstanding films, inspiring conversations, and unforgettable festival moments.

More than just a film festival, Iris offers the chance to discover award-winning films before everyone else, meet the directors and performers behind the stories, ask questions during live Q&As, and experience the unique atmosphere that has made Iris one of the world’s leading LGBTQ+ film festivals.

Whether you’re a dedicated film lover or simply looking for something different to do in Cardiff, Iris offers a packed programme of international short films, feature films, documentaries, industry events, talks, networking opportunities, live performances, and festival parties throughout the week.

Over the years, Iris has welcomed guests including Russell T Davies, Dame Kelly Holmes, Adjoa Andoh, Sir Simon Russell Beale, Alan Hollinghurst, and many more. With filmmakers travelling to Cardiff from across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, you never know who you might meet.

While Iris champions LGBTQ+ stories, everyone is welcome. In fact, around 30% of the festival audience identify as straight, helping us share LGBTQ+ stories with an even wider audience.
