Why visit Llandaff?

Llandaff is recognised as one of Cardiff’s most historic and picturesque neighbourhoods. As the birthplace of beloved children’s author Roald Dahl and a filming location for Doctor Who, it offers a unique mix of history and culture. Home to attractions including Llandaff Cathedral, which dates back to 1107, Insole Court, and the remains of the Bishop’s Palace, Llandaff is a wonderful place to explore. Although a little further afield from the city centre, it’s well worth a visit.

The mansion house has a 160-year rich history which was saved by the community with essential refurbishments.

LLANDAFF CATHEDRAL

The Cathedral lies in the ancient City of Llandaff, with its architecture dating from around 1120!

BISHOP'S PALACE

Originally a small medieval fortress, it is thought that the palace was built by William de Braose.

LLANDAFF FIELDS

Grade II listed parkland that features tennis courts, bowls facilities and a children's playground.

HOW TO GET TO LLANDAFF

Walk: Llandaff is just under an hour’s walk from Cardiff City Centre. You will find most of the restaurants, bars and attractions as you walk down the High Street and Cathedral Close.

Bike: Ride your bike into this neighbourhood, then dock it near Llandaff Cathedral. Find more cycling information here, including the best routes, cycle paths and parking facilities.

Train: The nearest railway station is Fairwater, a 15 minute walk away.

Bus: Catch Cardiff Bus 24 or 25 at Cardiff Bus Interchange or on Westgate St near Gate 4 Principality Stadium. Hop off at the Western Avenue or Black Lion stop, Llandaff Cathedral is just a short stroll away.

Car: Most streets in Llandaff are reserved for resident parking. Pay and displays are available.
