Thursday, 11 January 2024

Here’s what’s happening this weekend at Vindico Arena

The Devils face off against three other top teams from across Europe in the 2024 IIHF Continental Cup Final.  Here is everything you need to know about the weekend ahead.

THE FORMAT – Four teams, each team plays each other once.  3 points for a regulation win, 2 points for an overtime or shootout win, 1 point for an overtime or shootout loss and 0 points for a regulation loss.  The most points at the end wins.

THE TICKETS – You can buy a weekend pass to cover all 6 games, or you can buy individual games.  CLICK HERE to buy tickets online or call us on 0800 0842 666 and we will help you book your seats over the phone.

THE TEAMS – The Devils face three other top European clubs – Nomad Astana from Kazakhstan, GKS Katowice from Poland and Herning Blue Fox from Denmark.

THE GAMES – There are 2 games each day.  If you are just interested in Devils games, then take your pick of the evening games – 8pm on Friday and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Full schedule is below:

  • Friday 4pm – GKS Katowice v Herning Blue Fox
  • Friday 8pm – Nomad Astana v Cardiff Devils
  • Saturday 3pm – Herning Blue Fox v Nomad Astana
  • Saturday 7pm – GKS Katowice v Cardiff Devils
  • Sunday 3pm – Nomad Astana v GKS Katowice
  • Sunday 7pm – Cardiff Devils v Herning Blue Fox

THE BREAK – Between the two games each day, we will need time to completely clear the arena of all spectators in order to do a quick clean up, re-stock the stalls, bar and toilets, and re-scan tickets to make sure everyone coming back in has tickets for the second game.  Please follow our directions to make this as easy as possible.

THE RAFFLES – We will be doing our normal 50/50 raffle, Shirt Off His Back Raffle and Chuck a Puck for the Devils games each night, but not for the early games.  Below is what the special edition Continental Cup jerseys look like.  Shirts Off His Back are as follows:

  • Friday Night – Ben Bowns’ number 33 jersey
  • Saturday Night – Joey Martin’s number 88 jersey
  • Sunday Night – Riley Brandt’s number 25 jersey

THE BAR – The main bar upstairs will be open late all weekend long.  We will have a DJ on stage immediately after the second game each day so fans from all teams can stick around and party late into the night.

THE FOOD – The normal stalls and café will be open for both games and the main café will remain open for one hour after the second game to feed any late night cravings before heading home or up to the bar.

THE STREAM – We will be livestreaming all games so if you can’t make the games, you can still watch them live from Vindico Arena. The early games cost just £7 and the late games cost £10.  A pass for all 6 games is just £30.  CLICK HERE to read more including how to purchase.

THE WINNERS – There will be no pre-game national anthems, only the anthem of the winning team after the game.  This is standard IIHF International Tournament procedure.  We will also present a Player of the Game to each team after each match.  Sunday night there will be a closing ceremony and medal presentations to the Continental Cup Champions.  You will need to have a vaild ticket for the evening game on Sunday (Devils v Herning) in order to watch the closing ceremonies.

THE OTHER STUFF – The usual options for parking are available all weekend long.  CLICK HERE for information on parking for Devils games.  If you are planning to have a drink, why not give Dragon Taxis a call on 02920 333 333 or CLICK HERE to download their app.  They can drop you off or pick you up from our dedicated pickup spot right outside Vindico Arena.
