27 June 2023 · Christmas at Bute Park

Christmas at Bute Park 2023 is bringing an all-new layout, brand new installations and an extra half mile of festive magic to the Welsh capital in 2023

Wales’ premier festive lights trail, Christmas at Bute Park, is back and it’s bigger than ever – with an all-new layout and a longer trail of illuminations on offer in 2023.

The award-winning event – which is currently the most popular light trail in the UK outside of London – is extending its route and completely revising its layout and range of light installations on offer, creating a never-before seen experience for all those visiting this year.

Ahead of its third annual outing, Christmas at Bute Park is also introducing a new Christmas Village to its 2023 event, which can be accessed from the very start of the trail, and providing both Standard and Off-Peak tickets – which go on sale this Thursday (June 29th) – for the first time this year too.

Roxy Robinson, Creative Director at From the Fields, the team behind Christmas at Bute Park, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be bringing back Christmas at Bute Park to Cardiff for a third year, and we are so excited to reveal all the fabulous additions we are putting in place for 2023.”

“We’ve listened to feedback and extended the trail, so that it can be enjoyed for longer. It’s also going to be completely different in the way it’s laid out and the range of zones and special effects on offer. We are working with leading lighting designers, as well as local creatives, to bring an all-new look and feel to this year’s event.”

“We’re absolutely blown away with how well Christmas at Bute Park has been received and supported by the people of Wales since we first launched the event two years ago, and are over the moon to be coming back again for a third successful year.,” Roxy added.

“In return, we’re working hard to create a fresh, memorable and even more magical festive experience than before, and can’t wait to show all those visiting Christmas at Bute Park what we’ve got in store for 2023.”

With more than 145,000 tickets sold in 2022, Christmas at Bute Park will be returning to Cardiff city centre from November 24th through to January 1st 2024, bringing six weeks of festive magic with it.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a brand-new layout and improved accessibility to the trail through a shared entrance with Cardiff Council’s Winter Wonderland at the Castle North Gate Entrance to Bute Park, where North Road meets Boulevard De Nantes.

The Christmas Village will offer the option to try food and drink from leading local street traders at both the start and finish of this year’s festivities.

Those buying tickets will also have the option to visit during a number of different time slots, with discount offers & Off Peak dates to suit those on a budget. As always, the event is fully accessible to those with wheelchairs and prams, aiming to offer an inclusive celebration of Christmas for all the family.

Continuing its work from last year, Christmas at Bute Park will also be working with local charities to offer complimentary tickets to local food banks, hospices, schools, and disability organisations throughout this year’s event once again too.

Cardiff Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Parks and Events, Cllr Jennifer Burke, said: “Christmas at Bute Park has the spirit of Christmas running through it, all the way from the magical lights to the staggering £88,000 raised for local good causes and the 1,400 tickets donated last year alone, to communities who wouldn’t otherwise have been able to attend. We’re delighted to welcome them back in 2023 to spread even more festive cheer.”
