Dafydd Jenkins on ‘special’ Principality Stadium ahead of EPCR

Tuesday, 18 February 2025

With Wales’ next Six Nations game at the Principality Stadium, Exeter Chiefs’ Dafydd Jenkins recounts a memorable Champions Cup final.

Ahead of Wales’ first game at the Principality Stadium in the 2025 Six Nations campaign against Ireland this Saturday, Welsh lock Dafydd Jenkins recounts his personal memories of the home of Welsh rugby.

Speaking during our exclusive season launch event, the 22-year-old, who captained Wales in last year’s Six Nations and started against France in this season’s opener, explained that some of his favourite memories of the Principality Stadium have been thanks to the Investec Champions Cup.

A key figure for Exeter Chiefs in this season’s Investec Champions Cup, Jenkins revealed that it was the 2014 final that he has particularly fond memories of. As well as witnessing an enthralling 23-6 RC Toulon win over Saracens in the final of club rugby’s greatest competition, the atmosphere and overall experience that the Principality Stadium offered that day was unforgettable – something that, according to Jenkins, will undoubtedly be repeated in this year’s final.

“It’s buzzing… this stadium will be full!”

Aged just 11 at the time of that epic Toulon-Saracens final in 2014, Jenkins was immediately in awe of the Principality Stadium and the rugby spectacle he was witnessing.

And little did he know that 11 years later, the 2025 Investec Champions Cup would be set to return to Cardiff for what will be yet another memorable final.

“I actually watched the final here – Saracens versus Toulon,” he said.

“Obviously, I had no links to the teams but because it’s such a big game, everyone wants to get tickets and I’m pretty sure this stadium will be full.”

Whether you’re a seasoned fan of one of the competing sides or a general rugby-lover, a day out at the Principality Stadium for the Investec Champions Cup or EPCR Challenge Cup final guarantees to live up to its sky-high expectations, so book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

“Cardiff is like the biggest pub in the world”

As a city that is infamously passionate about its rugby, Cardiff on a matchday is always a spectacle any fan simply has to experience. While there will be almost 75,000 fans creating a memorable atmosphere inside the stadium, thousands more will be spilling onto the city’s streets to create an unforgettable buzz.

And when the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup final come to town, that energy will be amplified even more.

Jenkins said: “It’s a special stadium for me.

“It’s buzzing, Cardiff is like the biggest pub in the world (on a matchday)! The atmosphere in here is amazing, especially when the roof’s closed.

“All of Cardiff has a buzz about it and I think, just because it’s the final, it’ll be even bigger.”

Fans from far and wide will descend on Cardiff for yet another unforgettable weekend of rugby this 23rd and 24th May and will not disappoint as they make sure to bring a frenzy worthy of the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup finals to the Welsh capital.
