How to Spend a Day in Cardiff: The Perfect Itinerary 📄
You really want to visit but you’re short on time? Don’t worry. Our 1-day itinerary let’s you know the best way to spend a day in Cardiff and includes the city’s must-see highlights, all within easy walking distance. Look out for our top tips!
☀️ Morning: History & Green Spaces
- Start your day with an early stroll through Bute Park, a vast green space in the city centre – perfect for a relaxing walk along the River Taff.
- From there, step straight into Cardiff Castle, one of Wales’ most iconic landmarks. Explore its Roman walls, Norman keep, and beautifully decorated interiors.
Our Tip 👉 Allow at least 2 hours but up to 3 if you choose to add a guided tour at the Castle.
🛍️ Afternoon: City Centre & Culture
- Head into the city centre to explore Cardiff’s famous Victorian and Edwardian arcades – unique, independent shopping spaces full of character.
- Next, visit National Museum Cardiff (free entry but closed on Mondays), home to impressive art and natural history collections.
- Or, you could take a guided tour of our iconic Principality Stadium, home of Welsh rugby.

🌆 Late Afternoon: Cardiff Bay
Take a short trip to Cardiff Bay, the city’s beautiful waterfront district, perfect for enjoying a sunny day outside.
- Enjoy scenic walking routes around the impressive coastal barrage.
- Relax in the wide choice of cafés and restaurants around Mermaid Quay.
- Grab some great photos for your socials as a memento of your trip (tag @visitcardiff).
Our Tip 👉 If the weather takes a turn (this is Wales after all), head over to the Red Dragon Centre for indoor family fun including ten-pin bowling and cinema.
🌙 Evening: Food & Entertainment
- Why not end your day with dinner, followed by a show at Wales Millennium Centre, a landmark cultural arts venue.
- Alternatively, catch a concert at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena, or try out one of the city’s numerous activity bars or mini-golf venues.
Our Tip 👉 Opposite the Wales Millennium Centre, Côte Brasserie offer a Prix Fixe set menu on weekdays that’s perfect for a pre-theatre meal.
