With the 2028 Euros scheduled to take place in the UK for the first time, it is no surprise that Cardiff is filled with activity. LGBTQ+ people look no further; we’ve compiled the five best sporting activities for you to enjoy in this city.

Cardiff Foxes

Who doesn’t like running? It’s easy, fast, and no skill is involved! If you don’t fancy running alone, then why not join the Cardiff Foxes? They are a running group who meet every Sunday at 10.20am next to Brodie’s in Bute Park. It is rumoured that tea and cake is consumed after the 5K run. Some gays I know skip the running altogether and go straight to the eating the cake part.

Cardiff is also home to the Cardiff Baseliners, Wales’s first LGBTQ+ inclusive tennis club. Although, if playing isn’t your forte, then watching is also an option. Fancy swinging a racket or watching from the sidelines? You can go along every Saturday in the Whitchurch Tennis Club between 11am and 1pm.

Cardiff Lions RFC

Cardiff Lions RFC are Wales’ first LGBTQ+ inclusive rugby team and have been playing rugby since 2004. Keep an eye on their website and socials to see when they have home games to show your support and join them after for a post drink celebration or commiseration, depending on the score!

Be Gay Do Climbs

Be Gay Do Climbs have an excellent name. I assume you’ve already worked out what they do. The LGBTQ+ climbers meet every Monday at Boulders Newport Road and Thursdays at Flashpoint Cardiff, tackling different rock-walls. Find out more by e-mailing bgdccardiff@outlook.com

The Queer Emporium

Although keeping active can be a lot of fun, if you are looking for something less active to do, then visiting the Queer Emporium is a great alternative. They run many events; there’s always something to do when you go. Our favourites include Pride & Pen, a monthly poetry workshop allowing you to hone your skills under one of their team-members. Also, they offer a Queer Parents Meeting, offering a space for Queer parents and families to come together and meet over coffee. Details here: https://queeremporium.co.uk/
