A Brief History…

The Cardiff Devils have been a major fixture in the city’s sporting calendar since they were first founded in 1986. The team was created to play in the newly built Wales National Ice Rink and went on to finish their first ever season unbeaten, top of the British Ice Hockey League Division 2 (Midlands Section) with 13 wins and 1 draw from their 14 games. Promotion to the Premier League followed swiftly in 1989 and the Devils won the title in their first top flight season, going on to win the playoffs against Murrayfield Racers at Wembley.

Despite some barren years and hard times in the latter part of the 90s and 00s, the Devils have come roaring back and are on top of the game again. In the last four years under manager Todd Kelman, and with their new home at the Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff Bay providing a fitting backdrop, they have won 3 Erhardt Conference titles, 2 Challenge Cups and back to back titles in the Elite Ice Hockey League (2016/17 and 2017/18), also adding the Playoff Title in 2018 as well. With the last few years being some of the most entertaining and successful in the team’s history, there’s never been a better time to support The Cardiff Devils!
