21 Things To Do In Cardiff In 2021
2020 was a challenging year for everyone. A year that was made all the more difficult to get through due to the closure of attractions, the cancellation of live events and festivals, and the postponing of vacations.
Here at Visit Cardiff HQ we’re hoping that 2021 will be a much better year. If you’re looking for something to look forward too, here is our list of 21 things to do in Cardiff in 2021.
1. Visit the new and improved Techniquest
After four years of planning and development, Walesâ largest science and discovery centre has radically transformed, introducing 52 brand-new exhibits. Visitors can expect a whole range of custom-made, innovative exhibits â including an earthquake simulator, virtual operating table and a remote operated vehicle (ROV). All exhibits within Techniquest will span across five key themes â biomedical science, environment, world issues, chemistry and space.
2. Go to a concert at Cardiff Castle
With eight concerts announced so far, 2021 is shaping up to be a great year for live music at Cardiff Castle. With acts spanning the musical spectrum and huge names including; Foals, Michael Buble, Ryan Adams, Lionel Richie, and Kasier Chiefs, thereâs something to suit all tastes. 3. Embrace adventure at Cardiff International White Water
Cardiff International White Water is an exhilarating, on-demand adventure facility in the heart of the International Sports Village. Come and enjoy a range of exciting leisure activities for adventure-seekers of all ages; including an air trail, white water rafting, Tubing, and other great activities.
4. Artes Mundi 9
The UKâs largest international contemporary art prize Artes Mundi will return for its ninth edition and accompanying five-month-long exhibition from 13 February 2021 to 6 June 2021 in three venues across Cardiff: National Museum Cardiff, Chapter and g39.
5. The Hundred
Experience the new electrifying cricket competition for everyone. What is The Hundred? Seven cities. Eight teams. 100 balls. The Hundred will be played over five weeks during the school holidays and will be a great way for families to enjoy cricket. You can watch matches at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

6. Visit National Museum Cardiff
Housing Walesâs national art, natural history and geology collections, National Museum Cardiff should be on everyoneâs Cardiff bucket list. If youâre visiting on a budget then this should be at the top of that list as the museum is free to enter.
7. Fforest Fawr Sculpture Trail
The trail is located in a woodland area adjacent to the fairy-tale castle, Castell Coch. The path is approximately one and a half miles in length and is designed to take you on a magical journey through the forest. Itâs a great way to reconnect with nature or find some peace and quiet.
8. 2021 Adrian Flux British FIM Speedway Grand Prix
Britainâs biggest indoor motorsport event celebrates its 20th year in Cardiff with its biggest and best Adrian Flux British SGP yet! Plus, this year the Adrian Flux British SGP roars into Cardiff with an action-packed fanzone on city hall lawn which will wow fans with; Jaw-dropping stunt performances, Free running shows, Official SGP autograph sessions, Monster Energy entertainment, and Live music.
9. Watch a musical at Wales Millennium Centre
Wales Millennium Centre is the home to the arts in Wales. With a wide range of fantastic musicals booked in for 2021 including School of Rock, Sister Act, Le Miserables, Grease, We Will Rock You, and more, we highly recommend visiting the Wales Millennium Centre this year.

10. Visit Roath Park and Lake
One of our favourite gems of the city, not explored and experienced enough by tourists and day-trippers alike, Roath Park and lake is a fantastic free day out for anyone and everyone. Whether youâre interested in local wildlife and horticulture, want to take a lovely meander in an idyllic setting, or have children who want to go wild in a large play park, Roath Park and lake is for you.
11.Whizzard Helicopter Tour
Fly with Whizzard Helicopters and take to the skies from Cardiff Heliport with a scenic tour, offering a different view of the world which is really special. They offer bespoke flights where you can fly wherever you choose, or go on a recommended route.
12. Follow The Cardiff Bay Trail
Take a stroll, or a bike ride along the Cardiff Bay Barrage, take in the views across the bay and Bristol Channel, and enjoy the sea breeze. The Bay Trail is 10 Km in length and passes many attractions and public artworks along the way.
13. Visit Llandaff Cathedral
Visit one of the UKâs most stunning cathedrals, take in breath-taking history, heritage and architecture. The Llandaff Cathedral lies in the ancient âCity of Llandaffâ and stands on one of the oldest Christian sites in Britain.
14. Experience Experimentica Festival
Experimentica is a live art festival in Cardiff hosted by Chapter Arts Centre that encourages risk, collaboration and exchange between artists and audiences. The festival commissions and hosts a dynamic programme of live art, performance and interdisciplinary projects and offers a platform for UK and international artists at all stages in their careers, to present experimental work in an open and supportive environment.
15. Cardiff Triathlon 2021
Signing up for the Cardiff Triathlon is your ticket to compete in one of the UK’s finest city triathlons. With all distances from Super-Sprint to Olympic and a World Triathlon Age Group Qualifier there really is something for every ability at the Cardiff Triathlon.
16. Explore The Taff Trail
Walk or cycle between Cardiff Bay and Tongwynlais along 8 miles of the beautiful Taff Trail, passing many of Cardiffâs premier attractions and outstanding natural beauty spots along the way. The Taff Trail is a wonderful outdoor adventure often overlooked by residents.
17. Discover The History of Wales at St Fagans National Museum of History
Step back in time at Walesâ most popular heritage attraction. The museum, which is free to enter, stands in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle and gardens. Since 1948 over forty original buildings from different historical periods have been re-erected in the 100-acre parkland, among them houses, a farm, a school, a chapel and a splendid Workmenâs Institute. Traditional crafts and activities bring St Fagans alive, in workshops where craftsmen still demonstrate their traditional skills.
18. Treat yourself to a staycation.

19. Hensol Castle Distillery
Hensol Castle Distillery is South Walesâ first full scale gin distillery, visitor centre, gin school and bottling plant. Located in the cellars of the grade 1 listed Hensol Castle, which is full of history and heritage.
20. Visit The Cardiff Castle Public Square
The Cardiff Castle Public Square is a wonderful way to spend the day. You can sit down and relax on the Castle lawns or at the picnic tables, bring your own picnic, enjoy a coffee and a slice of cake from the bistro, let the children play and enjoy the beautiful scenery free of charge!
