Official Tour Guides

Here at Visit Cardiff, we have worked closely with the members of the official tourist guides association to collate a selection of 14 locally trained and qualified guides who know the ins and outs of Cardiff and the surrounding area.

The group of 14 individuals all have an array of specific interests, knowledge and qualifications; so, make sure to check each guide and see which is best suited to you! Some of the guides in the below list are driver guides and can transport you around in their vehicles, you may also see a few of the guides speak a variety of languages.

These expert guides will make you feel like a local here in Wales and let you discover all of the city’s hidden gems. Giving you the chance to learn about Wales’ History, Heritage and Landscapes.


 

Andrew Lamb

Andrew specialises in immersive day and multi-day excursions, showcasing Wales’ attractions and beauty to eager travellers. He is also a certified mountain leader and green badge tourist guide.

His mission is to deliver enriching experiences in a professional and memorable manner and bring a wealth of practical skills to each of his tours. Andrew is currently the Brecon Beacons National Park part time Warden. Some of Andrew’s interests include Countryside, Geography and Geology and History and Prehistory.

Darran Burnham Thomas

Darran was born and brought-up in South East Wales and has developed an extensive knowledge of the history and culture across Wales. He is a fully licenced and insured driver guide and can support with coach guiding.

Darran also completes city & town centre walking tours, brewery and craft beer bar tours, Cardiff Principality stadium tours, hotel concierge and group escort services and is a professional chauffeur for cruise and airport transfers. Some of Darran’s interests include Castles, Family History and Ancestral Tours and Industrial Heritage.

Diana James

Diana has worked in tourism in Wales since the 1990s, first with Visit Wales and since 2008 as a Wales Blue Badge Guide. She is trained and experienced in guiding individuals and groups of different ages and interests and loves introducing them to Wales.

Whether you are in Wales for a short or long visit her aim is to make sure you enjoy the experience and come to love the country. Some of Diana’s interests include Castles, Churches, Chapels and Cathedrals and Food and Drink.

Elizabeth Morgan

Elizabeth is a Green Badge Tourist Guide for South East Wales and a Brecon Beacons Gold Ambassador. As a tourist guide or tour manager, Elizabeth loves to share the sights and delights of her homeland – delivered in an interesting, friendly, enthusiastic way.

She can offer day or multiple day tours, walking tours, site tours, coach commentaries, step-on guiding by coach or chauffeured vehicle and illustrated lectures. Some of Elizabeth’s interests include Castles, Gardens and Stately Homes and Nature and Wildlife.

Fiona Peel

Fiona has been guiding since 2016 and lives here in Cardiff. She can offer specialist guided and small group tours for tourists that want local town tours or have their own transport to visit sites across Wales.

Her tours are flexible and can meet the specific interests of travellers. She also loves to take tours to the gardens of Wales, Castles and monuments. Some of Fiona’s interests include Countryside, Heritage and Stately Homes, Food and Drink and Castles.

Lucy O’Donnell

Lucy was born in Wales and currently lives in the South Wales area. She is a qualified Blue Badge Guide and has a wealth of experience in tourism, itinerary and tour management.

Lucy offers an array of tours which covers personal tours by car or people carrier, countryside and coastal walking tours, walking tours of towns and cities, cruise ship excursions, virtual tours online and coach groups. Some of Lucy’s interests include Industrial Heritage, Best of Wales – General Tours and Castles.

Marion Davies

Marion loves Wales and is a enthusiastic guide. She is a flexible with her tours and is always happy to help with creating a bespoke tour for you and your group.

She can guide in coaches, minibuses and chauffeured private vehicles. Marion has appeared on various programmes nationally and internationally and written guidebooks, magazines and newspaper articles. Some of Marion’s interests include Best of Wales – General Interest Tours, Castles, Churches, Chapels and Cathedrals and Industrial Heritage.

Michael Griffiths

Michael is a fluent Welsh speaker and has a longstanding interest in the Welsh language and Welsh history. He has also studied the histories of Wales and France at Cardiff university and gained his Green Badge as a tourist guide in South East Wales in April 2024.

Michael volunteers with Cadw and is proficient at guiding around their properties. He is also happy to design tours around customers interests and expectations. Some of Michaels interests include Best of Wales – General Interest Tours, Castles, Gardens and Stately Homes.

Peter Hill

Peter was born here in Wales and has taught history and politics for over 40 years. He is currently a guide at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff and St Donat’s Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Peter can offer walking tours of Cardiff and sustainable one day tours of wider regions which are available by utilising train and bus networks while getting to see the sights of Wales from a different perspective. Some of Michaels interests include Castles, Coastline and Countryside.

Phil Coates

Phil is a Professional Blue Badge Tourist Guide for Wales, South West England and Liverpool. He also works as a Tour Manager throughout the British Isles.
He has worked in the travel industry for 30 years and has completed an honours degree in tourist guiding.

He also holds institute of Tourist Guiding Endorsement Qualifications for Windsor and Eton, Salisbury Cathedral and British Olympic Games Venues.
Some of Phil’s interests include History and Prehistory, Castles, Industrial Heritage and Best of Wales – General Interest Tours.

Riki Phillips

Riki started guiding in Wales in 2000 and is now the force behind Tours Wales. He is a green badge driver guide for South East Wales and is recognised by Visit Wales and the Welsh Government as an experienced mountain guide and outdoor activity provider.

Riki is a Cardiff based guide so is able to offer a variety of tours here in the City. Some of Riki’s interests include Castles, Churches Chapels and Cathedrals and Countryside.

Robert Llewellyn

Robert is qualified to guide in English and French and has experience of groups of varied ages and nationalities, of urban and rural environments and of guiding inside sites and outdoors.

He can also create a bespoke tour to meet your interests. Introducing you to places, people and history of Wales and giving you a true taste of the county.

Stella Thomas

Stella is a knowledgeable Blue Badge Guide based in Cardiff and is a fluent Welsh speaker. She has worked in tourism in Wales for several years and supports Visit Wales and Visit Britain to guide travel writers and tour operators on education visits throughout Wales.

Although she is not a driver guide, she regularly guides groups of up to 6 people while working with drivers in Wales. Some of Stella’s interests include Welsh Language, Countryside, Castles and Food and Drink.

Stephen Griffin

Stephen has his own guiding business here in Cardiff called Griffin Guiding and likes to deliver entertaining and informative tours of Wales. He has worked with a diverse range of clients and is happy for tours to be tailored to your groups interest.

He can offer coach tours, walking tours, meet and greet services, airport assist and orientation tours of Cardiff – by coach or on foot. Some of Stephen’s interests include Castles, Countryside, Industrial Heritage and Best of Wales – General Interest Tours.
